Project Corporate Trauma Origin Story

5/26/26

TRANSCRIPT

[00:00:00]

In December of 2024, I lost my job. To act like it wasn't devastating would be a lie. It was.

[00:00:10]

But it also pushed me off the plane that I was on.

[00:00:13]

I had a parachute. But would I have jumped?

[00:00:16]

of. I had a dream at the end of last year, and that was doing work on Project Corporate Trauma.

[00:00:23]

It was born out of seeing my own experiences of pain, my reactions in the workplace that were less than stellar, that I now know to be trauma responses.

[00:00:34]

I saw them in other people, too. And we moved away from laughing at them, my friends and I who were in the painful experiences I lived, to me wanting to do something different, to wanting to do something better.

[00:00:49]

In 2025, Project Corporate Trauma has spoken to a number of individuals.

[00:00:53]

Who have been bold and brave enough to share their experiences.

[00:00:58]

I have sat with you in your pain, while you share some of the more difficult experiences of your work lives.

[00:01:06]

It's hard not to get caught up in the pain, sadness, in the knowledge that we're still perpetuating harm.

[00:01:13]

And yet, I'm hopeful for our future.

[00:01:18]

We've come to a dark place, I fear. But it doesn't have to be dark.

[00:01:25]

We have power. Someone once said that organizations aren't really a thing. They're just a collection of people.

[00:01:34]

And while collections of people have done really harmful things to one another in the past, Collections of people have also become communities and have done really wonderful things.

[00:01:46]

I'm looking to see what can we do better in 2026.

[00:01:51]

How can we reduce the harm that is done on so many levels in the organizations? If we see it, maybe we say something. If we're responsible for a system, maybe we change something in that system that will reduce the ability of that harm to take place.

[00:02:09]

Maybe if we're regulators, we take a look at the regulations that allow this to happen. If you have a story to share around your own trauma that has taken place at the hands of the organization that you have once served, I would love to hear from you.

[00:02:26]

[00:02:42]

Whether you're in a role that's grinding you down, or whether you're searching for your new next, we all deserve peace, space, and dignity. Here's to a really really hopeful 2026.
